I Dream I Fly

Description

For ~Naoko313's "Dream" contest (journal and news article).

Ever since I can remember, one of my greatest dreams was to be able to sprout wings and fly away. It's a dream I still hold now. As a child, this was simply to have an adventure - wings could take me anywhere. Now, older and a bit more mature, the concept of "wings" and "flying" has a whole new meaning. Birds, especially songbirds, are a symbol of hope for me. Birds sing in all kinds of weather, and even when the going gets rough, I still hear birdsong. When there's many trials in my life, I want to be like a bird - fly nearer to that sky and sing my heart out.

Because this piece is so personal, there's a lot of symbolism behind it. For those who don't know, the cheetah is my favorite animal, thus you could say the cheetah is me. The wings, after reading the above paragraph, are obvious - they are the wings "I" have grown to soar away from my troubles. The cheetah is flying with three blue songbirds in a place so unlike anything we find below, filled with sunlight and no darkness. Hope and patience brought brings joy even when, very close below, there is darkness beneath the clouds. Even when I feel like crying, I can still fly, can still sing.

...That is my dream.

I can totally relate to that dream! Cheetahs and wings also have a lot of symbolic meaning for me.
